The Straight Dope is a weekly Q&A column in the Chicago Reader concentrating in the obscure.
I’ve been subscribed to their newsletter (weird, I know [I like RSS {it really isn’t dying, you know}]) for a couple years and it is fun to read. Each week, a new question is answered and a couple old ones are reposted, but since the column has been in print since 1973 and old questions usually contain updates, that is no problem.
Two of this week’s questions were interesting, so I decided to make a post:
Was Monopoly originally meant to teach people about the evils of capitalism?
Did the inventor of the Slinky join a cult in Bolivia?
