Both this comprehensive article and this documentary are fantastic. I recommend reading the article first then watching the film. Unfortunately the documentary was made a bit too early in time to conclude the story, but to hear these people come to life in their own words after reading about them is a treat. There is tremendous depth to the story and it covers so many timeless themes: sacrifice, competition, obsession, meaning, friendship, rivalry, impermanence, legacy.
