Most music actually sounds amazing on good speakers (or live). We cut outselves off from a large majority of music we would enjoy if not for crappy speakers.
Just like photography has been clipped by its instant accessability, so has music. A song that sounds good on a smart speaker or in a car is just a specific genre of song among many. Whole genres of music are made to be listened to in particular settings and with particular moods. An extraordinary set of speakers is critical home infrastructure to enable access to this music.
This isn't audiophile craziness. Hearing is just as important as vision!
